Our Fraternity and Sorority community have a rich tradition at the University of Kentucky, starting in the 1890s and continuing to provide support, friendship, and leadership to the UK community. We currently have 55 social and cultural fraternities and sororities. Our organizations are members of governing councils that assist with events and programs, communication, recruitment activities, and student advocacy. Our community has over 5,000 members, across 4 governing councils. The governing councils here at UK are the Interfraternity Council, National Pan-Hellenic Council, Panhellenic Council, and United Greek Council. These 4 councils consist of student leaders from their respective communities striving to meet the mission and vision of our community as a whole and to strive to attain what is wildly possible here at the University of Kentucky.
The United Greek Council (UGC) represents organizations with a special interest or are culturally based. UGC hosts educational, cultural, and community service programs for members each semester. There are 5 organizations in UGC including four sororities and one fraternity. The sororities are Delta Phi Lambda Sorority, Inc., Kentucky’s first Asian interest sorority, Kappa Beta Gamma, a social organization; Sigma Lambda Gamma National Sorority Inc, a historically Latina sorority with multicultural membership; and Theta Nu Xi Multicultural Sorority, Inc, and Sigma Phi Lambda, a Christian organization.
